World-Class Academic Standards
for Ohio

The National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers have convened to develop ‘Common Core’ national standards in English and mathematics. Forty-seven states are participating in this venture (including Ohio), and the Obama Administration is putting millions of dollars behind this endeavor.

But what might this national effort actually mean for the Buckeye State, its children, its educators, and its schools? How does this national campaign fit into Ohio’s new legislative mandate to improve its academic standards and assessments? And what can Ohio learn from the work being done in other countries and states?

To help shed light on these important questions, we are hosting an invitation-only, one-day conference where national education experts will address:

·  the importance of academic standards to improving student achievement;

·  current national common standards efforts; and,

·  the work of top-performing states.

Leading state officials will also share their views on these important issues, and share what they believe these various efforts mean for Ohio’s plan to improve its standards, assessments, and accountability systems in the coming months and years.
