The average charter school in Ohio has been operating for more than five years, new data from a charter-school organization shows.

More than 75 percent of Ohio’s charter schools have been open for at least four years, says just-released data from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. And you might find it surprising that nearly 10 percent of charters here have been open for more than a decade.

There are about 330 charter schools in the state. Nationwide, of the roughly 4,600 charter schools in business, the average school age is about 6 years.
