With the slogan “Keep Our Comeback Alive,” the campaign for Columbus schools’ tax issue will finally kickoff this Wednesday, six days before the first ballots for the Nov. 4 election will be cast.

Campaign coordinator Gene Pierce says it will be a small affair – no bands, no fanfare.

But the event’s press release says some significant names are scheduled to make appearances: OSU President E. Gordon Gee, Mayor Michael Coleman and City Council President Michael Mentel.

Gee’s people confirmed he would be there, as did Mentel’s folks. But a spokesman for Coleman said it’s not certain if the mayor will show up, and it won’t be known until that morning. He didn’t explain why.

The kickoff for the Issue 75 campaign will be at Weinland Park Elementary from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
