Rebuild enrollment, now just over 50,000, by creating more specialty schools to draw youngsters from outside the district and encourage current students to stay.

Shore up neighborhood schools.

Build support for the tax issues he says are essential if Cleveland is to become a premier school district.

Manage the $1.5 billion construction and renovation program. Since 2002, the district has built or renovated 40 schools. Work is still planned on 49 buildings.

Improve both the graduation rate and the number of graduates going on to college.

Raise the district’s ranking on state report cards.

Ensure safety within the schools.
