The teacher-licensing fee hike issue isn’t quite dead.
The State Board raised rates for teaching licenses in February from $60 to $200 for a typical certificate. Then the teachers union lobbied the board to reverse its decision in March. That didn’t work.
Now, the issue has been pushed up to the legislature. House Bill 507, introduced by Allan R. Sayre, a Democrat from Dover, aims to allow teachers to pay the fees in annual installments instead of a one-time payment.
You can read the bill here.
It also addresses how the licensure fees can be used for tax credit.
If you need background on the issue, see a previous blog entry and story I wrote.
